Frequently Asked Questions
What are conflict minerals and what is this all about?
The U.S. recently passed a law (Dodd-Frank 1502) that requires publicly traded companies in the U.S. to disclose where certain metals in their products are sourced from. These metals are referred to as 3TG (tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold). They are used for a wide variety of things, so we are helping brands, companies, and ultimately people, find 3TG in their products and then trace the origin of the metal down to the smelter.
What is the difference between 3TG free and Conflict free?
3TG Free means that you do not use 3TG (tantalum, tin, tungsten, or gold) in the products you supply. Conflict Free means that you have ensured that all 3TG in your products is sourced from smelters certified as Conflict-Free Smelters.
I am not in the USA, I do not supply to the USA, why am I being asked to do this?
Many companies companies insist on compliance as a matter of good sustainable business practice. Additionally, many companies report all of its business units to the SEC under the umbrella of the parent-company based in the USA; their North American Units need to be in compliance with this law as well.
What is Conflict Free?
Any 3TG used intentionally in the manufacture of your products must be certified to have been sourced from smelters either certified Conflict-Free or from Smelters outside of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
